Try out French village life in our lovingly restored 2-BR, 2-bath house
"La Gaillarde" in the medieval heart
of Caunes Minervois. It has thick stone walls, huge wooden beams, an old claw-foot tub, a
charming garden for outdoor dining and a kitchen fireplace you could roast a pig in. For those
not interested in a full-immersion medieval lifestyle, it also features electric lights,
hot water, and high-speed wireless internet.
Our house on tiny Impasse Montgaillard is just 2 blocks from the Hotel D'Alibert, widely regarded as
Caunes' most beautiful Renaissance palace and now home of Frédéric Guiraud's excellent
traditional Minervois restaurant (open evenings March - November; +33 (0) 468-78-00-54). The famous Abbey
of Caunes Minervois, founded in the year 780 only shortly after the Moors were driven from Languedoc by
Charles Martel, is only 3 blocks away. It now houses a museum with artifacts from the Bronze Age
(3,000 years ago) up to the Languedoc wine-growers rebellion in 1907. Around the corner from our house
are a baker, the local bank, and the town café.
Inside La Gaillarde, you'll find comfortable
upstairs and downstairs bedrooms, each with an adjoining bathroom, with the kitchen and living room on the
floor in between - perfect for two couples travelling together. Walls are original stone, or hand-plastered
and painted in soft pastels. The garden is accessed from the living room. The house is fully equipped
with pots and pans, maps and guidebooks, and everything else you'll need for a comfortable stay. You can
even use our bicycles.
